Elective Home EducationSorry – applications are now closed for 2024
Securing your child’s vocational expertise
At The Cornwall College Group we have launched a successful Elective Home Education programme, designed to meet the needs of home educators in Cornwall and Devon.
We offer supportive and aspirational technical and professional provision, helping you in realising your child’s career goals and ambitions. It’s a fantastic way to ensure progression into further education, apprenticeships and employment.
Our approach is to enhance your child’s home education through a part time place at college in a subject specialism of their choice.

Yes, we’re offering places on any of our subject areas which allow entry by Pre-16 learners. The goal is to enhance an existing EHE curriculum that’s unique to each learner.
If your child is registered at any school then they will be unable to join this programme.

No, we only accept new students onto our courses who have been through our admissions process to commence at the start of the academic year in September.
Applications for September 2024 are now closed. Please use the form on this page to register your interest for future applications and EHE Events run by Cornwall College.
The course is free to all students, we will however ask you to purchase personal protective clothing for your child for their vocational qualification practical activities. You will also be expected to fund your child’s transport, food while they are at college and could be asked to contribute towards any planned trips.
Unfortunately, the College does not receive funding to be able to offer free school meals for the home educated provision. Your child will still be ‘Home Educated’ and therefore all costs are expected to be met by the parent/carer. Lunch or money for lunch will need to be provided each day.
Unfortunately, EHE students won’t be able to access our college transport. College does also not receive funding to be able to offer free transport for the home educated provision. Your child will still be ‘Home Educated’ and therefore all costs and arrangements for travel are expected to be met by the parent/carer.
We assess each applicant by speaking with them about their prior experiences and confidence levels. We need to see learners who are resilient, committed and enthusiastic.
The timetable varies year on year so the days cannot be confirmed until closer to September. Typically, lessons commence at 9.00am and finish at 4.30pm.
No, at college our maths and English delivery is designed for learners who have been through 5 years of Secondary Education or adults. As we cannot guarantee a consistent experience for EHE learners, we are not including English and maths in our EHE offer.
When a child is home educated, the support funding a school/college would receive to put support in place to meet an individual’s need is not available. As there is no support funding, any child with an EHCP will need to be assessed individually as to whether or not the College are able to meet the support needs in the EHCP without government funding. Unfortunately, if we assess that we are not able to meet the support needs without the funding, we will not be able to offer a place.
