For the love of Maths

More news from CCB Training

Love it or hate it, mathematics is an integral part of our day-to-day lives. Whether it’s managing finances, mastering time or making measurements – basic maths knowledge is indispensable.

To highlight the significance of numeracy skills, Tom Smith, project outreach officer for Multiply at The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), recently took the stage on CHAOS TV to discuss, debate and determine how maths can play a pivotal role in supporting businesses and the broader community.

The insightful discussion took place on Valentine’s Day, featuring Tom alongside industry experts, shedding light on the Group’s Multiply project.

Fully-funded initiative, supported by the Department for Education under the Unlock your Potential, Skills for Life campaign, aims to empower adults with the confidence to work with numbers effectively in the workplace.

The discussion delved into the benefits of possessing good numeracy skills and emphasised the need for upskilling the local workforce.

Did you know?

  • According to recent government statistics, half of the working-age population possesses numeracy skills equivalent to those of primary school children.
  • In England alone, approximately 17 million adults fall into this category, with numeracy skills at the key stage 2 level.
  • The Multiply project seeks to address this critical gap by providing adults with the tools and knowledge necessary to enhance their numeracy skills.
