Welcome to the Future is Green project, a pioneering initiative dedicated to driving the transition towards a sustainable future.
Led by The Cornwall College Group (TCCG) in collaboration with eight highly experienced delivery partners, the project aims to engage individuals in green skills training and qualifications to upskill the labour force, to bolster the future green economy and create opportunities for individuals to access and advance within high-quality, well-paid jobs.
Employer-led, responsive training and provision will be provided to support the cultivation of a skilled and adaptable workforce necessary for green and inclusive growth. Plus, support businesses and individuals in high carbon sectors in training, to encourage faster green transition and investment.

Primarily delivering in the following sectors, the project will support both unemployed and employed individuals (16+ and currently living in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly) who are seeking opportunities to train, re-skill or upskill for a green career. Support is also available to high carbon sector businesses, operating in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, to develop new and more sustainable
methods through staff retraining and skills development.

Agriculture and Countryside:
The project will be running a series of events delivered in partnership with Duchy College and Cornish Mutual that provide an introduction to the Environmental Land Management Package, Sustainable Farming Incentives (SFI), Countryside Stewardship (CS) grant aid, Farming Investment Fund (FIF) and the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway. Giving practical advice and tips on how to layer payments. Plus, the events will look at the use of Magic Maps and Land app for assisting the farming community in building a SFI.

The Cornwall College Group is delivering accredited and non-accredited sector specific short courses with a particular focus on renewables, sustainability and carbon literacy to the transport, construction and agri-food sectors. The courses will facilitate local businesses, unemployed individuals and those seeking a career change to develop the skills needed to support the green economy.

Truro and Penwith College aims to deliver a range of accredited and non-accredited courses and awareness-raising events including re-training support for high-carbon sectors such as Construction, Engineering and Automotive, as well as Green Skills training across sectors in areas such as Leadership and Management, Green Tourism, sustainable food production and Carbon Literacy. The College will also engage with Domestic Customers to improve awareness and effective utilisation of technology, including Smart Meter systems, insulation, water conservancy and energy usage.

The courses will facilitate local businesses, unemployed individuals and communities to develop their skills through upskilling/reskilling in green skills and investigating cross-sector opportunities, supporting the local and wider green economy.

The University of Plymouth Net-Zero Exchange team, based within the Sustainable Earth Institute, are delivering short courses designed to support organisations on the path to Net-Zero. These courses are particularly focused on sectors that are “high-carbon” including power, transport, built environment, industrial decarbonisation, nature-based solutions, waste/recycling, circular economy, food, agriculture and many more. Newquay Orchard is delivering support to grow the skills for a sustainable farming sector in Cornwall. They work within the community to develop the supply of future skilled workers and with community growers to develop their existing employees and volunteers in order to drive growth in productivity and financial sustainability of the sector. At Newquay Orchard, they provide entry level support to increase self-sufficiency, food, and land based skills for adults and young people suffering the highest levels of deprivation in Cornwall. Their support and training provides an introduction to future green career pathways and tackles the socio- economic barriers to training, education and employment. Participants can access a range of skills development opportunities including accredited and non-accredited courses to explore opportunities and achieve their own goals. At Grown, their market garden based at Fentenfenna Farm CIC, they are working with community growing businesses across the county to co-design and deliver training and qualifications for both staff and volunteers. Community-based growers are an important part of the strategy to improve the resilience of Cornwall’s local food system and increase access to nutritious, organic local produce and reduce the carbon impact of the sector.

Celtic Sea Power (CPS) is co-designing and delivering “Introduction to Floating Wind” courses with Cornwall Marine Network. CSP is also facilitating access to accredited professional qualifications for Cornish residents. With a focus on young people and those not currently in work, education, or training. The aim is to realise the opportunity of Cornish jobs in the FLOW industry.
