Science GCSE

The specifications will prepare learners for progression to further study in science, whilst at the same time offering an engaging and satisfying course for those who choose not to study academic biology further.

It is an ideal qualification for students thinking about a possible career in teaching or nursing where a Science GCSE at Level 4 or better is usually compulsory

This course is ideal for you if you require an extra GCSE for entry into University. We recommend checking with the University for their entry requirements.

You may be considering a career in this field or perhaps you just have an interest in this subject and would like to learn more.

The course enables learners to develop an understanding of the concepts and models that scientists use to explain natural phenomena and how this links with the importance of experimental practices that quantifies and develops scientific understanding.

The qualification is available at two tiers of entry. Higher Tier (Grades 9-3) or Foundation Tier (Grades 4-1).

Entry requirements

We normally expect applicants to this course to have already achieved a Grade 3 at GCSE in a Science subject. However, if you have not taken this GCSE course before, or have studied abroad, we may ask you to complete a short diagnostic test at interview to help decide whether this course is suitable for you.

Assessment

Science GCSE is assessed through 4 exams, one for each of the subjects areas. This course does not have coursework, you will only be assessed through exams.

Progression

After completing this course you will be able to go into employment or further study.
