What will I do on the course?
This seven-day course is a mix of practical on-site and classroom-based training including:
- On-site construction induction
- Understanding the various opportunities with the construction sector
- Practical on-site health and safety training
- A one-day practical in Bricklaying
- A one-day practical in Carpentry
- An opportunity to sign up and have an interview with leading recruitment agencies that could lead to a career within the construction industry
- Mentoring and support
- CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card scheme training, leading to a CSCS (labourers) card
What qualifications will I gain?
- City and Guilds Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
- City and Guilds Level 1 Award in Construction Skills
- A CSCS Labourers card (external application)
Who is this course for?
This free course is aimed at adults aged 19+ living in Cornwall in receipt of benefits.

Start date Monday 30th September 2024 – Brunel Building, Cornwall College Camborne
What’s next?
Upon completing this course, you’ll be equipped with the qualifications, PPE, and practical experience to enter the construction field as a labourer. Depending on your existing skills, you could advance to higher roles, pursue further qualifications, or explore apprenticeship opportunities within the sector.
