Course information

The knowledge, understanding and performance criteria for Unit 1 training and assessment is based on a foundation level over a broad range. Unit 1 will touch on air source principles to include a minimal content of design.

The knowledge, understanding and performance criteria for Unit 2 training and assessment is specifically for the installation, commissioning, handover and maintenance of ASHP and associated heat emitter systems.

Unit 2 will deliver the training and assess the learner for the knowledge, understanding and application of a specified type and range of air source units and systems.

The knowledge, understanding and performance criteria for Unit 4 training and assessment is specific to standard design principles for ASHP systems to include the heat emitter circuits.

Heat losses in dwellings by fabric and ventilation is also included

This course will provide candidates with knowledge and understanding in the following areas;

• background of Heat Pump Systems
• drivers and barriers
• an introduction to Air Source Heat Pump Systems
• principals of operation and components
• associated regulations
• health and safety
• system design
• heat sink circuits
• collector circuits and Air Source Heat Pump installation
• testing, commissioning, maintenance and fault diagnosis and repair

N/SVQ Level 2/3 or Equivalent. Examples Include: Plumbing, Heating & Ventilation (Domestic/Non-Domestic/ Commercial Installation), Oil Fired Technical Services (OFTEC) and Gas Installation & Maintenance (Gas Safe Registered).

In addition to the above candidates must also hold;

• Energy Efficiency (EE);
• Un-Vented Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems (UVHW) and;
• Water Regulations (WR) accreditations.

Candidates who do not hold some of these prerequisites’ can be arrange to undertake these courses with Cornwall College.

This course is suitable for existing fossil fuel, heating, plumbing, mechanical, ventilation and electrical engineers who hold the required utility sector prerequisite qualifications and experience.

• Level 3 Award in the Installation of Small-Scale PV Systems
• Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Maintenance
