The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), which was recently praised by Ofsted for making significant progress, has rolled out its first wave of new courses that lead to modern and rewarding careers.
Applications for a number of cutting-edge courses in growing industries are now live with many more to follow.
The launch of Cornwall College St Austell’s ‘digital influencing’ course, which will be taught at its specialist Creative & Digital Academy, reflects the growing number of people making a successful career from social media.
At Cornwall College Camborne, a new Level 3 qualification in IT is now open for applications as a direct response to the huge opportunities available in the Cornish technology sector.
Curriculum Area Manager at Cornwall College Camborne, Tobias Rossi, commented: “The tech industry is expanding nearly three times faster than the rest of the UK economy and there are more than 13,000 technology companies in the south west alone.
“Our staff have created a brand-new course to respond to the demands of this expanding industry – and the fact that the largest tech employer in the region, Headforwards, is based at our Camborne campus makes this the perfect place to start your career in the tech sector.
“Students will have the opportunity to learn from professionals and gain hands-on industry experience to prepare themselves for university study or employment. There has never been a better time to join this sector and we are looking forward to welcoming students onto the campus in September 2021. They will be the future for the tech industry.”
Among the other new subjects on offer, which includes a popular foundation degree in child and family studies, is a qualification in ‘Clay and the Community’, where students on the course will explore their passion for throwing, building, modelling, casting, moulding, glazing and decorating clay in the home of ‘white gold’ in St Austell.
Students will also have the chance to network with visiting artists engaging in The Austell Project, White Gold and Brickfield.
And in response to the growing buzz in the aviation sector throughout Cornwall, people can now apply to study towards a qualification in aeronautical science in Camborne.
These new courses reflect a substantial programme of investment in student experiences and teaching that The Cornwall College Group is going through, which recently saw them achieve the highest possible judgement in an Ofsted monitoring visit – “Significant Progress”.
