Course information

MultiSkills Construction Diploma Level 1 If you know that you want a career in the construction industry, but aren’t sure which trade to choose, the Construction MultiSkills Level 1 Diploma is the perfect course for you.

The course has been designed to provide training across three key trades, Carpentry, Bricklaying and Plumbing.

Delivery is 85% practical and 15% theory, therefore providing plenty of workshop time to support you making an informed decision for your next steps.

Studying the MultiSkills programme will support you to develop your confidence, team skills, maths, communication, Health & Safety and employability skills. We will also revisit British values, Equality & Diversity, and Prevent alongside extra-curricular activities which are planned throughout your curriculum to ensure you have fun along the way.

In carpentry you will learn how to handle tools safely and construct halving joints, housing joints and framing joints.

In bricklaying you will learn how to set out and construct, Brick, Block and Stone walling.

In plumbing you will learn how to bend and join copper pipe, plastic pipe and steel pipe using a variety of jointing methods.

Your course will encompass maths and English as well as a work experience element to support next steps and progression to an apprenticeship or employment within the sector.

This Level 1 course is all about introducing you to the construction industry and developing your essential skills. You’ll be learning from highly experienced trade professionals who are on hand to provide the very best start to your career in construction.

This one-year introduction will explain the tools, components and terminology used in the construction industry you will learn how the industry works and how they interact with one another. By gaining an introduction to all three trades you will be prepared for the more specialised practical approach to your chosen career path the following year. This in turn will ensure you are on the right career path for you.

Entry requirements for external applicants and school leavers
• Two or more GCSEs at Grade 2 or above, or successful competition of Entry Level Qualification.
• Learners with relevant industry experience but no GCSEs at Grade 2 may be considered based on interview.

Entry requirements for existing learners with the Cornwall College Group
• Successful completion of previous course and, where relevant, progress in maths and/or English.

GCSE English and Maths at Grade 2 or above

Industry visits/experience and guest speakers

Centre-devised assessment (internal practical assessment)

Possible progression routes, include:
• Level 2 Diploma in one of the trades
• Level 2 Apprenticeship
• Employment
