Course information

This course is aimed at beginners who will learn the basic use of a digital camera and simple techniques to improve portraits, landscapes, travel photography, special occasions, and more.

You will learn what the controls on your camera are for, and how settings can be used to give effects that can enhance your images. This will include an understanding of exposure and what settings combine to give the right results; what types of image file and colour settings are the best for your camera; basic control of natural, artificial and flash lighting and basic use of photo software; tips for improving the composition of landscapes, portraits, nature and close-up (macro) images.

Students are encouraged each week to try out what they have learnt and the photographs are viewed by the group the following week.

You will need your own digital camera for this course and if you already have one a tripod may also be useful.

You may be eligible to do this Tailored Learning course/workshop for free, or at a reduced fee, if you are 19+ as of 31.08.24, have been a UK/Ireland resident for the last 3 years, have not done this or a similar course/workshop before and have not done/booked on more than 2 Tailored Learning courses/workshops already for this academic year 2024/25 with The Cornwall College Group.
