Military academy students pretending to be in command centre If you are passionate about a career in the Armed Forces or Emergency Services (MAPS) and would love a job where everyday matters, then taking a step in the right direction on our Military and Protective Services course is the right choice for you.

The first thing you’ll notice about this course is that it’s about practical learning, physical fitness, mental resilience and career exploration – you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors exploring our amazing campus and excellent facilities.

You’ll be exposed to a wide range of Uniformed Services employers and experience life in uniform daily at college and during your visits to numerous armed forces and emergency services training establishments.

Our training wing features industry-standard equipment and a disciplined environment, exactly like an initial phase one training establishment. We have a strong collaborative relationship with the Royal Marines, British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Police, Fire Service, Prison Services and Private Security organisations. The level 3 course is all about consolidating your understanding of the uniformed services industry and developing both essential and advanced skills. You’ll be learning from highly experienced armed forces and emergency services professionals, who are there to give you the very best start to your career. Completion of our Level 3 Diploma will enable progression into employmeny with a uniformed service or progression onto our fantastic foundation degree, FdSc in Rescue and Emergency Management which will prepare you for Officer entry as well as emergency planning and management careers.

This one-year/two-year extended diploma will explore the numerous uniformed services career options and entry requirements as well as hands on experience with service kit and equipment and terminology used in the uniformed services industry.

You will gain a strong understanding of service life and learn how to remain calm and in control during emergency incidents.

You will gain advanced leadership and physical and mental resilience. You will also become a confident communicator and have a strong understanding of service collaboration and national/international current affairs.

Entry requirements for external applicants and school leavers
• Four or more GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and/or Maths, or successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification.
• Functional Skills Level 2 in English and/or Maths will be considered as alternatives to GCSE, but a GCSE resit may be required depending on grade.

Entry requirements for existing learners with the Cornwall College Group
• Successful completion of previous course and maths and/or English at GCSE Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2.

GCSE Level 4 English and Level 4 Maths and additionally 5 GCSE at 4 or above

You will join the uniformed services on bespoke residential work experiences with both the Armed Forces. Here you will get to experience life as a service recruit and as a fully trained member of the uniformed services.

You will be assessed through practical observations, assignments and completion of unit workbooks. You will study 9 modules which are progressive and sequenced to advance your prior experiences. There are no exams.

Once you’ve finished the Level 3 course, you’ll have a strong understanding of uniformed services careers and the selection process. You will be mentored through your chosen services application process and be ready to enter employment. You would have developed strong teamwork and leadership skills and would also be physically and mentally resilient.

Completion of the level 3 course will also enable progression onto our fantastic foundation degree, FdSc in Rescue and Emergency Management which will prepare you for Officer entry as well as emergency planning and management careers.
