Course information

Joinery Courses This course could change your life it’s an active well paid job your after and you want to travel the world. The course will enable you to take your carpentry skills far beyond the usual DIY level and give you an understanding of general building construction along with the part a carpenter plays in the construction of al sorts of buildings.

The course will enable you to work confidently in a construction related work place. All of our training takes place in a construction related environment and with carpentry you’ll be working on your own timber frame house either in our large workshops or outside to add a bit more site realism to the course.

We have a large range to tools and equipment for you to practice with, you’ll also have access during the course to our wood machine shop to experience the machines we have. Your teaching will be delivered by highly experienced qualified trades people who have many years’ experience of working in the construction industry.

You will learn all the above as well as sharpening techniques, care of your tools and how to use then safely. You will learn to work as part of a team, You will learn how to plan and undertake techniques to complete your project. You will be involved in discussion about technique and methods.

You will be taught all aspects of carpentry activities from laying floors to fitting kitchen and fitting roofs. By the end of the course you will achieve a qualification Yes! But you will also have the experience of the carpentry staff passed onto you and complete backup of that team which means that you will be able to work in any construction site in the world with confidence.

Entry requirements for external applicants and school leavers
• Three or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, or successful completion of a relevant Level 1 qualification.

Entry requirements for existing learners with the Cornwall College Group
• Successful completion of previous course and, where relevant, progress in maths and/or English.

Entry requirements will be at discussed at interview

None needed but experience will help you put into practice what you are being taught.

You will be assessed variously, by exam, both online and written. You will also be assessed by your tutor through practical tasks.

Site Carpentry Diploma Level 3 or the Site Carpentry Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3. You may also be able to enter the workplace in a junior role if you have gained your Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) accreditation.
