Making the move to college
Moving from school to college can feel like a big leap, but we’re here to let you know that there’s nothing to worry about. In fact, here are just some of the reasons why the change of pace you’ll find at college is something to be celebrated!
Respect
At The Cornwall College Group, you’ll be treated like an adult. This means being able to wear what you like (depending on your course) and calling your lecturers by their first names, rather than ‘sir’ or ‘miss’.
In return, we’ll ask you to treat your course and your campus with respect too, giving your studies your full attention and effort.
Independence
Our courses are designed to help you reach your career goals. This includes giving you the independence to manage your own studies and workloads to prepare you for the world of work.
But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that you’re alone! We’ll assess your individual needs to see whether you’d benefit from any support with learning, exams or general wellbeing. This support might differ from what you’ve previously received at school, but we’ll tailor it to match your current needs and help you progress to the next stage of your career.
Choice
College is the time to take charge of your own future and study a subject that you’re really passionate about. As one of the largest colleges in the UK, we have an impressive selection of study options on offer, from practical skills training and apprenticeships to national diplomas.
Our courses are designed to give you a real feel for your chosen career. With courses taught by experienced lecturers and work experience opportunities in relevant fields, you’ll have the space and the support to develop your skills and decide what area you really want to focus on.
Opportunities
We pride ourselves on giving you everything you need to succeed in your chosen field. You’ll be able to train using industry-standard, state-of-the-art facilities and then put your skills into practice during meaningful work experience placements. These placements will give you the chance to boost your CV, to learn about the realities of different jobs and to network with other people in the industry.
Connections
College is a great place to build connections that can last a lifetime, from potential employers to new friends.
We have a variety of social spaces – designed by our own students – where you can relax outside of your classes, along with regular events run by our Student Union, where you can meet people from different years and courses.
Confidence
We’re here to help you bridge the gap between formal education and the workplace. By learning quality skills in professional surroundings, we’ll help you gain the confidence to succeed in your chosen vocation.
Supporting you
It can take a little time to adjust to the different pace of your college course, but we’re positive that you will enjoy the unique experience and world of opportunities on offer here at The Cornwall College Group.
Don’t forget, our staff are here to help you with a range of topics, from academic support and career guidance, to financial advice and general wellbeing.
