Student stars shine at college awards

The region’s largest college group is set to celebrate student success with a spectacular awards ceremony held at the St Mellion Estate Cornwall.

Ambitious students from The Cornwall College Group (TCCG) are being recognised for their outstanding achievements at this year’s Shining Star Awards, a spotlight on TCCG’s brightest stars from its campuses across Devon and Cornwall, with headline sponsor First South West.

The lucky students shortlisted will come together at the end of June at the luxury St Mellion resort, to mark the end of another year of exceptional achievement.

“I couldn’t be prouder of everything our students have accomplished,” said John Evans, Principal & CE for The Cornwall College Group.

“Their successes, whether they be academic triumphs, community-focused good deeds, or overcoming all manner of obstacles to follow their dreams, are an inspiration to us all,” he continued.

“Each of the students shortlisted share a commitment, drive and passion to succeed in their studies. It’s these traits which will carry them forward as they embark on their career journeys, for which I wish them every success.”

The Shining Star Awards are made possible by the generous sponsors of the event. Alongside headline sponsor First South West, this year sponsors also include Next Steps South West, Hawkins Motor Group, NFCE, Mole Valley Farmers, Lantra Awards, Datasharp, UAL, Cornwall Apprenticeships, Kier Group, St Austell Brewery, Ascentis Awarding Organisation and Domino’s.

Highlighting achievement within further education and apprenticeships areas, the annual event will see potential winners shortlisted for over 30 awards from hundreds of nominations made by teaching and support staff.

“For everyone at TCCG, being able to celebrate with students and their families is the highlight of the academic calendar,” John Evans explained.

“This year is no exception, with a fantastic evening of good food, live music and great company planned in the magnificent setting of the St Mellion resort. I’m already looking forward to it.”

TCCG continues to go from strength-to-strength with notable investment in student experiences, quality outcomes and a focus on career-led courses for all. It’s recent glowing Ofsted report, saw the College achieve an overall ‘Good’ Grade 2 rating and ‘Good’ for each of the eight areas of inspection, including ‘quality of education’.
