New Apprenticeships and Courses, Shaping Cornwall’s Future Workforce
At The Cornwall College Group, we’re leading a ground-breaking initiative designed to drive local economic development and tackle the critical skills shortages facing our communities.
Thanks to the support from the Department for Education’s Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF), we’re making significant investments in cutting-edge facilities to deliver pioneering new apprenticeships and courses. These tailored programmes are designed to meet the needs of priority sectors outlined by the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP), a strategy led by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
From construction to engineering, and manufacturing to marine, we’re committed to providing innovative training to meet the evolving needs of businesses within Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Bridging the skills gap has never been more critical. In collaboration with LSIP, the FSB, and our Employer Advisory Boards (EAB), we’ve crafted a suite of apprenticeships designed to directly respond to the local industry’s demands.
New apprenticeships include:
- Low Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship Level 3
- Refrigeration Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Level 3
- Junior Energy Technician Apprenticeship Level 3
- HNC Engineering Apprenticeship Level 4
The rapid advancements in renewable technologies has opened up new avenues for professional development. Our renewable courses are specially designed for tradespeople looking to upscale their expertise in this rapidly evolving sector.
- Level 3 Award in Air Source Heat Pumps
- Level 3 Award in Solar Thermal Hot Water
- Level 3 Award in the Requirements for the installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points
- Level 3 Award in the Installation of Solar Photovoltaic Systems
We also offer further courses in renewables including:
- Level 2 Award in Sustainable Energy Technologies City & Guilds
- Level 2 Certificate in Sustainable Energy Technologies City & Guilds

Recognising the unique needs of each business and its team, we offer customised courses aimed at boosting team performance, confidence, and motivation, ensuring your business’s growth and success.
Courses range from leadership, management and sustainable business.
The Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) is funded by the Department for Education (DfE).
The initiative is a collaborative effort, with Truro & Penwith College leading the LSIF alongside delivery partners TCCG, Cornwall Marine Network and Focus Training who have received a total of £2.5 million to meet employer skills needs identified in the LSIP. Supported by additional funding from the Skills Injection Fund, this partnership also aims to offer an alternative to traditional degree pathways by facilitating access to Higher Technical Qualifications in high-demand sectors such as digital, healthcare and engineering.
