Toby Duffield
FE Student Governor
Hi, I’m Toby Duffield, a first-year student at Duchy Stoke Climsland, studying a level 3 Diploma in Military and Protective Services. For those of you who don’t know me, I am one of the two Student Governors representing the Cornwall College Group and I hope in this bio you can learn a bit about me, what I stand for and mostly why I wanted to be the Student Governor.
Firstly, I was born in Cornwall and have been a part of the Army Cadet Force since I was 12, hence my aspiration to become a part of the Armed Forces as an officer in The King’s Troop. I currently live with my dad in Cornwall but stay in residential accommodation within the college due to the amount of traveling.
Why did I choose this college for the course I’m taking? I chose this college as it had the best reputation for this course and I have no regrets on my decision. However hard the course may be because it pushes me to my limits every day, it is bringing the best out of me which is preparing me for my future career.
I chose to be a Student Governor as I want to support the positive changes across the colleges and make sure it guarantees the support of the students. I believe students need to feel happy and comfortable with their learning environment to accomplish the ethos of The Career College and to be able to do that, everyone should have the same equal opportunity as everyone else by being heard. I hope to help to be a link between governors and the student voice.
